Laura Williams (Advanced Health, laura.williams@advancedhealth.com, 541-269-4550) – Presenting the current Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP) funding opportunities.
Many focus areas across Coos and Curry Counties – transportation, behavioral health, health equity, prevention, housing/homelessness, etc.
CHIP funding:
Two funding review cycles for Coos County: July 22, September 23 (if funds are still available).
Two funding review cycles for Curry Count: July 12, September 13 (if funds are still available).
If serving both counties please submit just one application indicating how you plan to spend funding across both counties.
Decision makers are plan members and community partners (Community Advisory Council).
Funding is flexible for small and large programs/projects, 501c3 status is not required. Sustainable projects are encouraged (e.g. projects that have multiple funders).
Advanced Health may have funding to support other health education initiatives. Contact Laura for more information.
Jen Shafer (United Way, director@unitedwayswo.org, 541-267-5202) – Presenting UWSWO’s 2021 annual grantmaking program.
Three funding categories:
$45,000 available for 501c3s working in health, education, and financial stability. Maximum award $5,000.
$5,000 available for 501c3s working to address social isolation and loneliness on the south coast. Maximum award $5,000.
$5,000 available for community organizations working in health, education, and financial stability (501c3 status not required). Maximum award $1,000.
Applications are reviewed by UWSWO’s Grant Allocation Committee (community partners, community advocates) and funding recommendations are provided to UWSWO’s Board of Directors.
Timeline:
Applications due July 31, 2021.
Reviews and site visits August-early September 2021.
Funding decisions made September 15 with awards to follow.

Welcome new participants
Laura Moore (ORCCA) will be going part-time. Two new housing staff – Jason Worman (training and compliance) and Laura Fortan (housing program manager). Laura M will still be sending community info. Welcome Jason and Laura!
Cheryl Brown (Start Making A Reader Today/SMART reading program) – SMART partners volunteers with students preK-3rd grade to work on reading skills. During COVID, implemented a new virtual reading program, also delivered new books to 941 youth (8k+ books total given to community). Serve 14 sites in Coos/Curry. Thanks Cheryl!

To help reduce barriers to vaccination, OHA has been connecting partners with transportation resources. There are many ways people can get a ride to a vaccine. Gordon Clay – CDC chart regarding the top 50 causes of death for Oregonians in 2019 by age and gender is here. Suicide ranks number one for 15-54 year olds. When using CDCs top 10 causes of death – youth 15-24 don’t die by any of the top 9 causes, only the 10th – suicide. Poisonings and road traffic deaths are next.

Oregon Health Authority will provide certified copies of vital records free of charge starting June 1 – October 28, 2021. $0.00 fee & up to (3) certified copies of a birth, death, marriage, divorce, domestic partnership or dissolution of domestic partnership record. Employment:
Teri Moore (WorkSource Coos) – opening doors July 21 8:30am-5pm, virtual appointments will continue. Work search requirements and other unemployment requirements will resume the week of July 25. Federal extension will end in September – encouraging people to look for work now to avoid a flood in the labor market. South Coast Social Services Connect meetings will continue virtually through year-end, but we are looking to host smaller in-person regional networking meetings as well.
