June 8, 2021 – Oregon Academy of Family Physicians, Older Adult Behavioral Health Initiative
Betsy Boyd-Flynn and Jennifer Hendrickson (Oregon Academy of Family Physicians, bbf@oafp.org) – Community-wide approach to health including primary care providers, public health, and community based organizations is very effective in addressing urgent public health crises and supporting the general health of the community on an ongoing basis. Primary care providers are trusted by community members and can help break down barriers to vaccine adoption. The philosophy of the project is listening-based rather than presentation-style.
OAFP has identified physicians on the south coast who are interested in collaborating with community partners to help with vaccine adoption in the immediate future and address social determinants of health in the longer term. If you are planning an educational event OAFP may be able to help with co-hosting, co-organizing and/or logistics.
Feedback on this project is welcome!

From Connie Hunter (offline):
June is National PTSD Awareness Month and honoring our women veterans. According to the last census, Curry County has 170 female veterans. If you know a woman who served in the military/veteran, let’s get her registered for a special honoring event. The VA now has implemented clinical initiatives, research agendas, and programs dedicated to women, including the Women Veterans Health Program and the Center for Women Veterans. Every VA in this country now has a Women Veterans Program Manager. Among women Veterans of the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, VA data show that almost 20% have been diagnosed with PTSD; other data available upon request. Click here for more information on PTSD.
