2024 day of caring

Our annual Day of Caring is back! This year we are proud to bring back this fun, family-friendly volunteer opportunity to help your community with basic yardwork. Can we count on you to help your neighbor? Curry County and Coos County individuals, teams, and families are invited to volunteer to help local seniors, veterans, people with disabilities, resource (foster) families, and other residents in need of assistance.

SCHEDULE:

  • 8:30am - registration

  • 9am-12pm - yardwork!

  • 12-1pm - lunch/raffle drawings

HOW IT WORKS:

  • Volunteer teams of 4-5 individuals are encouraged to sign up! Co-workers, service clubs, youth groups, and families are welcome!

  • Volunteers should be able to provide their own transportation and lawn care tools. Tasks may include lawn mowing, weed whacking, brush cutting, raking, and cleaning gutters. We will let you know what tools are needed prior to the event. Don’t have tools? No problem - we can pair you with a team, or find tasks that don’t require tools.

  • Yardwork assignments will be made based on volunteer tool availability. (If your team would like to help a specific individual/household, please let us know when registering.)

  • Volunteers will be entered into a raffle drawing for a $50 gift certificate to a local restaurant or business.

  • United Way will provide basic first aid supplies, lawn bags, and work gloves.

  • Assistance with debris removal is appreciated!

WHO qualifies for help? Coos County and Curry County seniors, veterans, people with disabilities, resource (foster) families, and other residents in need of assistance may qualify. Requests will be prioritized based on need and volunteer availability.

  • Applicants must own their own home and have homeowner’s insurance.

  • Applicants should have yardwork projects that can be completed by a small volunteer team during a 2-3 hour time frame.

  • Projects will be assigned according to volunteer availability; we may not be able to accommodate all requests.

  • To see if your household qualifies, please call us at (541) 267-5202.
